From field trips to motivational speakers to Career Day, it was another fun-filled and busy week for staff and students at Hillhurst! A BIG thank you to those who volunteered for field trips and to the parents, friends and family members who shared their careers with our students earlier today. I heard students say, “I want to be a vet!...I want to be a lawyer!!...I want to be a pilot!!!” I just realized no one ever says, “I want to be a principal." Interesting...
Canadian Geographic Contest
Hey there, awesome explorers of Hillhurst! Let's give a big round of applause to all our grade 4, 5, and 6 Canadian Geographic Contest participants—you rock! Students practiced and participated in the contest to show off their geographic smarts and skills, diving deep into the wonders of our world. Huge kudos to each and every one of you for your dedication and passion!
A special shout-out goes to Evan, Jameson, and Ayansh for clinching the top three spots at Hillhurst, your hard work and enthusiasm truly shine bright. Thanks to Canadian Geographic, all participants receive certificates to show off their achievements. Plus, our top three winners receive special prices from the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.

Jump Rope
Jump Rope for Heart outdoor jump party is next Wednesday, May 1! We want everyone to show Hillhurst pride by wearing their yellow Hibou attire! Please bring in donations Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday for a chance to win a prize. On Wednesday, please bring a personal jump rope from home if you have one. Thank you so helping raise heart and stroke awareness.
School Council Parent Evening
Briar Hill, Hillhurst and Queen Elizabeth School Councils are thrilled to host an in-person parent evening with AHS Education Consultant Andrew Baxter. Andrew is the Team Lead for the Mental Health Literacy Project and a parent at Briar Hill School. Join Andrew for an informative and engaging evening where he will clarify the states of mental health, common mental disorders, and what we can all do to boost and support the mental health of our children and ourselves. The evening will be held at Briar Hill school on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 pm. This event is free, however as this is an in-person event, please let us know you will be coming so we can plan and set up accordingly. This will be offered in person only and therefore there will not be a virtual link.
Safety Reminders
Parents, please know that when we call home to let you know your child is not feeling well, we are not doing so to inconvenience you. We do our very best to rule out the ‘you’re not really sick’ from the ‘this child needs to go home’. Being told that someone should stay at school, so they learn to ‘tough it out’, is not what we like to hear when we’ve called you.
