Greetings Hillhurst Families,

We hope this weekly update finds everyone well and looking forward to a beautiful weekend. We are happy to let you know that students are thriving in their new learning environments and settling into the school year. As the days continue, we are beginning to engage students in activities beyond their classrooms, such as walking trips in the community and Riley Park, weekly student announcements over the intercom sharing celebrations and upcoming events, and leadership opportunities such as Student Environment Ambassadors.

Earlier this week, an email was sent to families on behalf of Hillhurst School Council, with the following information:

  • Family Welcome Picnic September 19 from 5-7 PM. Food trucks will be available if you wish to purchase anything
  • Hillhurst School Apparel Store is now open. Visit the online store! Please ensure that all orders are in by Sunday September 15th
  • Casino Volunteers needed Nov 2 & 3! Sign up!
  • Monthly Bottle Drive: please feel free to bring your refundable bottles to the school on Wednesday, September 18th between 8:30 and 9:00am. Please note that we are only able to accommodate refundables on this day, between this specific time, as there is nowhere to store them in the school.

Volunteering at Hillhurst is an exciting way to be involved in our learning community. In the coming weeks, teachers will reach out to families through their weekly updates about volunteering in classrooms. To volunteer in CBE schools, two processes need to be completed. First and foremost, all volunteers are required to have active volunteer clearance through Calgary Police Service. Information about how to begin this process, or to renew your clearance. Learn more! Once your clearance has been confirmed, you will also need to complete the CBE Annual Volunteering Form for the 2024 – 2025 school year. Ms. Saxton can help you with this in the Office.

For now, we are looking for volunteers to support our Annual Terry Fox Run, as well as some keen organizers to support with the Library and other common areas in the school. If you are interested in either opportunity, please fill out our form and we can get you started!
