Happy Snowy Monday!

We hope that everyone had a great weekend. This week marks the beginning of our Art Residency, thanks to our generous School Council and the Calgary Foundation for the Arts grant. From now until the end of January, Ms. Ewa Sniatyca will be working with all students. Ms. Ewa is an experienced and talented visual artist, and has worked in CBE schools for many years. She loves working in multiple modalities, including paint, sculpture, fabric arts and weaving, clay, and print-making. Each teaching team has met with Ewa to incorporate her skill set into the ongoing learning and curriculum in their communities. We look forward to sharing our work with you!

Here are some things to keep in mind throughout the next while:

  • Hillhurst School Council Meeting - Wednesday, November 20 at 6:30. Feel free to attend in person at the school, or online; link to be sent out separately
  • Photo Retake Day - Thursday, November 21 (AM)
  • Learning Conferences are on Thursday, November 28 (evening) and Friday, November 29 (day) - Conference booking system goes live in MyCBE Saturday, November 24 at 9:00am

We are looking for a few things! If anyone has cardboard cereal boxes (empty) to donate to the school, it would be greatly appreciated! Thin cardboard is needed to support students' work with Ms. Ewa. The cardboard can be dropped off in the Office at any time. Next, we are looking to borrow artificial holiday trees of all sizes until Thursday December 19th. We are hoping to build a festive winter forest on the main floor. We are looking for just the trees, so please no ornaments or other materials. Thank you so much for spreading the word. Artificial trees can be dropped off in the Office. Please make sure that your family name is on the tree, so that we can get it back to you!

Thanks for sending your children with their winter gear today. A great time was had in the snow! Please remember that all students will spend time outdoors at least twice a day, so warm clothing (and perhaps a spare pair of socks for their backpack) is a must. Indoor recess will only occur when the temperature reaches -20 degrees Celsius, with windchill. Decisions about indoor recess are made using the information provided by Environment Canada.

Have a wonderful evening,

Kristin and Shafali
