Dear Hillhurst Families,
Happy final week of school until the new year! We hope that everyone is managing ok with the colder weather and icy conditions. We have a busy week ahead, including special spirit days, caroling, decorating cookies, the annual Hibou Fair, and wrapping up learning projects before Friday! We hope to be outside throughout most days, so thank you for sending your children with their winter clothing.
We have some staffing updates to share with you this week. After more than 25 years with the Calgary Board of Education, we congratulate Ms. Lyster (lunchroom supervisor), on her retirement. It's hard to imagine a time when Ms. Lyster was not part of the Hillhurst Family! We are so excited for her as she heads into retirement. Next, Ms. Alla (lunchroom) and her family have purchased their first home in Canada. Our hearts are so happy for Ms. Alla and her family as they settle into their new home in the deep southwest. As such, Ms. Alla has decided to finish her position at Hillhurst and seek other opportunties. We are happy to confirm that Ms. Lori Goods will continue on until at least Spring Break, as she continues to cover the leave for Ms. Molnar. Ms. Herselman, who is covering the leave for Ms. Swift, will also continue on at Hillhurst into the New Year.
For those of you with children who are eligible for Kindergarten next year, please note that Kindergarten registration opens January 13 2025. All registrations are done online through your myCBE account, or by accessing the main CBE website. Students are eligible for Kindergarten if they turn 5 years old on or before December 30. Registration for Kindergarten will be ongoing for the rest of the school year, but we appreciate having the registrations as soon as possible as it has staffing implications. Later in the school year, we will offer Welcome to Kindergarten information.
As we approach the Winter Solstice, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season with your friends and family. Enjoy each other's company, eat good food, and cherish the slower pace. From an Indigenous perspective, the winter season is the time of storytelling and teaching. I hope that you enjoy gathering with your loved ones, telling stories, and making memories. On behalf of the staff of Hillhurst School, we are very glad to be part of your story.
Shafali and I remain so grateful to serve Hillhurst students and their families. Your stories matter to us, and we look forward to the new year in our wonderful community.
Kristin and Shafali
